Last week I shared 3 easy ways to experience the Presence of God daily. If you haven’t read my previous blog, I would request you to go check it out and be blessed! I ended the blog by giving a little secret to living a life of breakthrough. I wrote, “in the spirit realm, some demons resist God’s will for our lives. Consistency in prayer is the key to living a life of breakthroughs. As we are consistent, God’s mighty Angels begin to engage with those demonic agents and the resistance begins to fade away, so much so that it is no more! When we pray for a breakthrough in a certain area, the key is to press in because it is an unseen enemy that is stopping or hindering us and God has already released His Angels with the breakthrough that we desire”.
We can learn this very well in Daniel 9:21-23, which says, while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. 23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.
You see, as soon as Daniel started praying a Word from Heaven was sent out, an answer was sent out at the hands of Gabriel. When we read Daniel 10:12-13, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me because I was detained there with the king of Persia”. Did you notice, again it says that the answer to Daniel’s prayer was already sent on the first day, but it was being resisted. How did the breakthrough come? As Daniel submitted to God in prayer, the devil was resisted and the breakthrough came.
What if Daniel stopped on the 20th day? Many times we approach prayer the same way and try to keep up. We try to work it out and get tired in the process. We say, “Lord from today onwards I will pray and read the Bible for at least an hour, every day “. Do you know what happens from the next day onwards? We try to keep up with our promise to God. We work hard and exhaust ourselves to the point where we begin to skip days and eventually, we stop.
We cannot afford smooth-talking in these current times. If there’s something that the people around us want, it is the power of God. That is why it is so important to walk in the power of God and be able to release it in the lives of people. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 4:20– For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
Prayer is not work to exhaust you! It is to be enjoyed. Prayer is spending time with the Lord and it is a delight. From now on, I want us all to approach prayer differently. You see the key to your breakthrough is not much in the hours spent every day but in being consistent. I’m going to give you all some action points today. I’ll share my approach to prayer because many people have this question for me on how I spend time with God in prayer. For the next 21 days, I want you all to be consistent with me.
1. Take 5-7 minutes every day. As I shared, a life of breakthrough is not dependent on the amount of time spent but on being consistent every day. Irrespective of your schedule, time constraints, take 5-7 minutes to pray. How should you pray?
2. Start with thanking God for your life, for His unconditional love for you. Thankfulness opens our hearts to be able to receive from God. Do not rush this, take it slowly! You see, prayer is not about you talking to God, but listening to what He has to say.
3. Acknowledge His Presence within you and begin to worship Him. Say, “Lord I give you my everything, my body, my soul, and my spirit they belong to you”. Offer your heart to God and adore Him. Say, “Oh Lord You’re beautiful, glorious, wonderful. I love you, My King”. You see, adoration lifts us to a higher place. What do I mean by that you may ask? Always remember, prayer is a spiritual thing. The power lies in what is happening in the spirit realm. As we are consistent, we begin to understand the activities taking place in the spirit realm. That is when we begin to discern God’s voice.
4. Lastly, as you adore Him and worship Him, pay attention to your thoughts and the pictures that you see in your imagination. If you struggle with certain thoughts that are ungodly, don’t fight with them. Simply give your attention to Jesus. The moment you have an ungodly thought or a vain imagination, remember the devil wants to get your attention. Many times we fail to realize this simple thing and start fighting. No! You don’t fight with the devil. It is in submitting to God that you resist the devil. God has sent His mighty Angels to fight for you. All you have to do is say, “Lord I give you my attention once again and I worship You”. See Him in your imagination, picture Him with you.
5. Lastly, my advice would be that you keep a notebook. During prayer, you may remember a list of things to do that you may have forgotten. Don’t resist those thoughts but keep noting them in your notebook.
So for the first 5 minutes, you thank God, acknowledge His Presence, and worship Him. Keep the area of breakthrough that you’re looking for in your heart as you worship the Lord. If you do, you may also speak in tongues as you adore Him in your mind. Do not rush but take it slowly. In the next 2 minutes write your thoughts and short points on what all happened during those 5 minutes of prayer.
Beloved friends, I stress at the same point again. The key is not in the amount of time you spend every day but in being consistent every day. Please do not limit your prayer time by just asking God to do certain things for you. Instead, go higher. How? Adore Him for who He is. As you adore Him, learn to be quiet and speak to Him in your mind. Learn to be still for a while and let Him speak to you. Be ready with a pen and a notebook to record all that He speaks to you. If you believe He will not speak to you then He won’t. Faith pleases God! Your pen and notebook matters. It shows that you’re ready to hear from God.
I desire to raise a prophetic community and to make hearing from God very simple for everyone. In the coming days, I will write on “Hearing from God”.
