Before I begin with today’s blog, I wanted to share a few thoughts on Identity, Calling, and Purpose.
Identity is given to us before we’re born. It is what God thinks of us. Our identity is in His image and likeness.
Calling– before we’re born, the Lord calls us to do great works. To be able to fulfill this powerful call, He puts within us certain gifts to fulfill it. This calling and the gifts to fulfill it always remain with us.
Purpose– As we identify and recognize our calling, our purpose on earth becomes to see it fulfilled.
Our consciousness toward our identity and calling makes us powerful, but not the most powerful. So who was the most powerful according to the Bible? John the Baptist!
So this is what happened. I was reading Mark 1 and while reading I just remembered the verse where Jesus Himself testifies that among those born of women, there is none greater than John. Then I asked, “Lord, what made John so powerful, I want to know”. I thought, “because he ate locusts and wild honey… and locusts represent destroyer and devourer. So he ate the destroyer”. Then I thought “he wore simple clothes and lived a simple life, maybe this made him powerful”. Then my attention went to where he said there is one coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I felt in my heart, “yes, humility! But how”?
And I felt I heard, “Because you recognize their power, their ability, and you make way for them to express and reveal themselves”. Humility is in recognizing the power in others, the glory in others and this is what made him the most powerful”.
John was a messenger, sent ahead to prepare the way for Jesus. Similarly, the Church fathers and leaders are forerunners, sent ahead with experiences and wisdom to prepare the way and to make way for their children, whom they have discipled and raised.
Among those born of women, none has arisen greater than John, yet you could become more powerful than him, how? By becoming the least, a servant of all.
I feel the greatest revelation that is now come is regarding the body. Not the Church but your body, my body, our humanness. It is remarkable how the gospels begin in the audio bible. It says, the gospel according to Matthew/Mark… That is why each account of the gospels varies. Not because there’s something wrong, but because it is written by humans. We observe differently, we express differently, yet we’re all one. Luke writes something remarkable in Luke 3:23. It says, (speaking of Jesus) he was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph. Why? Because Luke knew something that a lot of Jews didn’t believe. He knew Jesus was born from above and that He was the son of God. He, who is ageless and formless, took human form and walked on the earth. It was the joy of our Father to reveal His glory in a vessel of clay. God chose to stoop down to breathe life into us. He chose to stoop down, to live inside of us. This is humility. Jesus did all that He did being human. His humility is revealed in Philippians 2:5 when He gave away all the attributes that make God God and emptied Himself of power. He only had human strength and relied solely on God’s power. It is in this body that He visibly transfigured and 3 of His disciples could see. Why? He was saying this is possible, you can do it too.
If you really understand the value that God has placed upon our bodies and that this is where He dwells, you will take care of your body.
Always remember that you and I can do a lot of things on our own because we can, but the greatest power lies in our ability to see the potential in others, and make way for them.
