What Does it Mean to Walk as a Son of God?

A few years ago, I would often ponder on the word sonship and think what is sonship? I began to know the Holy Spirit and he led me to Jesus. I fell in love with Jesus! I began knowing Him but not the Father. I used to think maybe when I do the right things He turns to me, and when I do the wrong things He turns away from me. That’s how we are taught and that’s how we’re still teaching some of the kids even now. Telling them “oh don’t do that, God will be angry with you or upset with you”, or by telling them that when they behave well Jesus loves them. So the focus is always on ‘me’, what ‘I do’, what ‘I am doing and how ‘I am doing’. Trying to be a good student, a good Pastor, a good teacher, a good husband, a good believer, a good son or a daughter and that is ‘pressure’ my friends! But being a little boy with Daddy God? It is pleasure! Why live from pressure when we can live from pleasure, from the reality of being a son? Because the Father says you are my son, whom I love. With you, I am well pleased.

Today let this become our core value, that I am His son. The moment this becomes our reality, we begin to see others from this reality of how good our Father is and how loved I am and we will begin to want everyone to know how good the Father is and how loved they are. Life isn’t easy for me when I live from this reality. I mess up, I get tired at times, but then the moment I am aware of how good my Father, my Dadda is and how loved I am, everything changes.

The orphan world is based upon what I do, then I will have and then I will become something. But for sons and daughters, it is I am a son, and I have because of Whose I am and then out of that reality, I do everything. The Kingdom is not about what you do, it is about who you are. The Kingdom is not about the number of healings that you do or the miracles that happen when you pray, it isn’t what you do but who you are. Sonship is living from the reality that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and in Him I have the peace and joy of the Lord which is my strength. It is the lie of being an orphan in our mind that looks for affirmation, recognition, and love. But that is not how the Kingdom works. Before Jesus set out for ministry, the Father affirmed Him by saying this is My Son, whom I love. With Him, I am well pleased. This is like getting 100 marks before even writing the exam. If you don’t live from this reality you will look for love in the wrong places and that gets us in trouble.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Free from self-examination, from self-efforts, free indeed! Grace empowers us to walk freely. This is true Sonship; to walk in the awareness of who you are and Whose you are, His delight over you, and the power of your words flowing from your union with Him.

“True sonship reveals the heart of the Father and is able to fully manifest it on the earth”.
