I want to continue on the series “Growing in the Prophetic” today and would love to teach on “Seeing in the Spirit”. Man, I clearly remember how frustrated I would get when people would say oh I saw this while praying, or I see this for you… some people would go on saying I see this and this and this… and I would stand there amazed thinking there’s something wrong with my eyes because everyone else can see. Little did I know that the Lord was only creating a deep hunger within me to see in the Spirit because I was born for this. Have you ever felt this? Yes? You’re created for this! The gift is in you. Today, it will get unlocked before even you finish the blog.

Recently, I went on a bike trip with a few of my friends and in the middle of the trip, we connected with a dear brother who was visiting that place with his family. We took him along for a short visit to a beautiful hill station. During a small break, he shared how he had dreamt of being at the same place and having tea with one of my friends. He just remembered it then. As I heard him say that, I almost instantly knew that he was a seer, and this guy didn’t know that he is a prophet. I cannot explain how I knew this. To best describe this, I just knew it at that moment! I took him aside and spoke to him. I knew he could see in the Spirit but he didn’t know this either. My attention went down to a red chilly at the place where we stood and spoke.  

I said, “look down, look carefully, what do you see”?

He said, “I see chilly, red in colour, dry… it is crushed due to…”

I interrupted him, “no, don’t interpret, just tell me what you see”.

Surprised, he started looking at it carefully and said, “it’s dry, I can see that the texture is withered, I see more colours at the root…”

“While seeing, when you start saying what you feel, you’re interpreting. It is called hearing”, I said.

One of my friends was standing close by and I said, “now, look at him carefully, and keep looking”. Now his curiosity had been tickled. He had no clue as to what is happening. I then said, “now tell me what you feel when you look at him”. You will be surprised when I say this but he gave a few accurate words of knowledge about my friend who stood in front of me. Spot on! What was I doing? Simply trying to make him aware of the gift of God already there within him.

Now let me break down this experience to make it simple for all of you.

As I write this blog, I see a few things besides my laptop, of them, I see a remote. Now I am going to lock my eyes on that remote and tell you all that I see-

I see a white remote, doesn’t look very old, it is a bit dusty. The plastic wrap on top of it is tearing off. I see different buttons on the remote and a few scratches here and there. As I look more carefully, I see that the scratches have torn the plastic wrap from few places, but if you remember at the beginning, I said it does not look very old. Now it looks a bit old to me. Well, I can go on and on like this and describe all that I see. This is exactly how you see in the Spirit. Look around you, lock your eyes on an object and write a few things that you see, just the way I described right now. Take 1 or 2 minutes and practice this!

Now do the same when your eyes are closed. As you spend time in prayer, be quiet for some time, and try to see. Focus! At first, you will say I see nothing but black, darkness. Great! At least you see something! As you keep seeing and practice engaging like this, you will become more skillful. Write all your observations as they will help you in your growth process.  I hope I have done justice by making it as simple as possible. In the next blog, I will teach how you can hear while you are seeing, or how you can interpret all that you are seeing. Interpreting all that we see is called “Hearing from God”. Because we can hear His voice in any form- visual, pictorial, like a video, thoughts, etc… But today I want to focus on the pictorial aspect only.
